AROICON 2024: India’s Largest Radiation Oncology Conference Hosted in Mangalore

The 44th Annual Conference of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROICON 2024), hosted by Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, took place from November 28 to December 1, 2024, at the Dr. TMA Pai International Convention Centre, Mangalore. With over 1,800 delegates, including oncologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals, this event was the largest oncology gathering in Mangalore’s history.

A Grand Inauguration with Eminent Speakers

The conference commenced with an inspiring inaugural address by Shri Dinesh Kumar Shukla, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). He emphasized the importance of a safety culture in the use of radioactive therapeutic devices and highlighted AERB’s collaborative efforts with professional bodies like AROI in formulating safety regulations.

Vice-Admiral Dr. Arti Sarin, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, spoke on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in cancer care, urging oncologists to take leadership roles in research and innovation.

Adding to the academic grandeur, Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor, MAHE, reminisced about the evolution of radiation oncology and the significant contributions of Dr. TMA Pai, the founder of MAHE, towards eradicating ill health, poverty, and illiteracy.

Lt. Gen. Dr. M.D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, announced a 100-bed palliative and hospice care centre in Manipal, set for completion in April 2025.
