NMAMIT’s Industry Outreach Program: IT & IT unable companies in DK & Udupi District.
In coastal Karnataka, NMAMIT’s Project Vriddhi Encourages Industry-Academia Collaboration
An important step in encouraging ties between academia and the IT/ITES sectors in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts was taken on May 31, 2025, when the Project Vriddhi team of NMAM Institute of Technology (NMAMIT), Nitte, hosted the Industry Outreach Program at Hotel Ocean Pearl in Mangalore.
The event, which was led by Dr. A. N. Parameswaran, Director of Industry–Institute Collaboration (IIC), sought to establish collaborative, sustainable ecosystems that would be beneficial to industry, academia, and students alike.
Dr. Ajith Hebbale was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, expertly directing the following sessions. In his opening remarks, Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice President (Technical Education) at Nitte DU, offered a hilarious and relevant perspective on Mangalore’s development, highlighting the area’s rapid urban and economic transition and drawing parallels to Bangalore’s increasing traffic.
Dr. Parameswaran, in his address, laid out the vision for Project Vriddhi and the importance of developing job creators rather than just job seekers, reinforcing commitment to student-cantered learning and innovation.
Following this, Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar,Principal of NMAMIT, gave a powerful presentation in which he described the history of Nitte DU’s growth from Mangalore to Bangalore and highlighted the school’s strengths, which included a NAAC A+ rating (2021), inclusion in the Times Higher Education Asia Rankings 2025 (601+), and an annual enrolment of 1,800 students. By highlighting partnerships with Wipro, ATOS, TITAN, and three Japanese training facilities—one of which has moved to Mangalore—he highlighted how industry shapes education.
The presentation also covered the establishment of Centers of Excellence and industry-powered labs to give students practical experience, the success of faculty immersion programs that involved 17 faculty members spending a month in industry, and the integration of Professors of Practice (there are currently five). Academic leaders such as Dr. Nagesh Prabhu, the vice principal, Mr. Bharath Kumar, the head of placements and counseling, department heads, IIC Coordinators from CSE, ISE, AI/ML, Cyber Security, and MCA, as well as more than 35 local industry leaders, actively participated in the event.
Academic and industry representatives stressed the importance of curriculum co-development, internship and mentorship programs, faculty exposure to corporate work environments, and collaborative efforts in managing CoEs and R&D projects throughout the open discussion session, which turned into a forum for mutual exchange.
Participants also highlighted the potential for continuing education for working professionals and stronger placement support.
The program’s core objectives were clearly outlined: to create a thorough database of local IT/ITES organizations, create lasting industry-institute partnerships, encourage departmental collaboration with businesses, and launch collaborative programs like industry-integrated labs, joint consulting projects, and customized training modules. A common goal that aims to generate knowledgeable, industry-ready graduates, provide teachers with real-world experience, and boost regional innovation and economic growth surfaced during the event.
With initiatives like Project Vriddhi, NMAMIT continues to position itself as a dynamic force in Coastal Karnataka, bridging the gap between academic learning and industrial application. The Industry Outreach Program not only strengthened institutional ties with industry stakeholders but also set the foundation for a more engaged, relevant, and future-ready educational framework.
As NMAMIT expands its impact beyond the campus into the larger ecosystem of talent and innovation, programs like these will play a crucial role in shaping the future of education and regional progress.
